State Language Department, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Giorgi Akhvlediani Society for the History of Linguistics are pleased to invite applications for a week-long second international summer school in sociolinguistics, running from Monday 21 July to Sunday 26 July 2025. Conducted in person in the First Campus of Tbilisi State University.
The Second International Summer School in Sociolinguistics focuses on the theory and practice of sociolinguistics, language contact, linguistic situation, language hierarchy, language policy and human rights.
Summer School in Sociolinguistics is targeted at both BA, Ma and PHD students, also post-docs, junior and senior researchers and offers six various topics. It will be last five days, the fifth day for student presentations, which will be followed by the excursion and banquet on Saturday, July 26, 202.

From early to modern Sociolinguistics; Methodologies of sociolinguistics;
Monolingualism, Bilingualism, Diglossia and Multilingual Communities: Contact, Conflict and Management;
Linguistic Geography; Origins, diversity and language death;
Language Policy—Case Studies;
Theoretical frames about a historical perspective in sociolinguistics
Diachronic aspects of language contact ;
Substratum, language shift, elite multilingualism.
Language and Colonialism; Postcolonial Language Policies;
Language norms and ideologies; Language standardization and codification;
Power, Identity, and Resistance; Globalization and Linguistic Futures.
To participate in the Summer School, knowledge of English is required, since English is the working language of the school.
